WAUKON - Funeral services were held Monday for John Verthein, one of the oldest residents of Waukon, 89, a native of Germany. When 17 years old he came to this vicinity and established a home in Union City township, where he and his family lived until 1929 when they moved to Waukon. On March 14, 1881, he was married to Anna Siegert, who survives him with their nine children: Mesdames Joseph and Bert Bulman, Nap. Olander and Mark Donahue and John Jr., all of Waukon; Mrs. Gustave Wild and George, French Creek, township, Henry, Lansing, and Gustave, Tulare, S.D. There are eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church, conducted by the Rev. L.L. Bond.
