Child Killed In Center Township.
Waukon Democrat -An accident occurred Monday afternoon near Dalby, in Center township, which resulted in the instantaneous death of a little seven-year-old son of Allan Falls, the colored man who resides on a farm in that neighborhood, The child was at play in the yard and was chasing a colt about, when coming within reach of the old one's heel, the mare gave the little fellow a vicious kick upon the head which killed him instantly.

'Woodmansee' records: the child is noted as being buried in Old West Paint Creek cemetery & give his name as Charles Leroy Fails, son of Allen; 1893 Jul 01 - 1900 Jun 06. Also recording Charles' death (and deaths of other children of Allen & Minnie) are the Lansing (German) Evangelical Church records, on the Allamakee co. website. The surname in census & other records on the website is consistently spelled FAILS OR FAILES
