The funeral of John Bowen, Civil war veteran, was held Monday morning at St. Patrick's Catholic church. He died at the home of his niece, Mrs. Bert Robbins.

Waukon, Ia., Nov. 24 - John Bowen, an old Civil war veteran passed to his reward here at the ripe old age of 90 years.

Mr. Bowen was born in 1832 in Ireland. At the age of 12 years he went to England remaining there until 1853, when he came to this country and settled in Massachusetts. He served over three years and a half in the army.

His wife and two sons preceded him in death many years ago. He came to Allamakee county and settled in Union Prairie township in 1869 and lived with his brother Patrick Bowen and family. Twelve years ago he came to Waukon to make his home with his niece, Mrs. Bert Robbins of Bridgewater, S.D. and three nieces, Mrs. Bert Robbins, Mrs. Dan Robbins of Billing, Mont., and Mrs. John Moran of Minneapolis.

The funeral took place from St. Patrick church and the few surviving members of the Civil war were present, also the Spanish-American war veterans, who were pallbearers, and veterans of the World War.
