Fred A. Smith, 84, a LaCrosse resident for 34 years, died Saturday, July 20, in a Caledonia, Minn., rest home.

He is survived by four sons, Wilfred of Waukon, Iowa, and Thomas, John, and Merl, all of LaCrosse; two daughters, Mrs. Floyd (Bessie) Kumpf of Waukon and Mrs. Obert (Mae) Haugstad of Caledonia; one brother, Wid of Hornick, Iowa; three sisters, Susie Boyd, Bessie Nau and Sybil Beebe, all of Sioux City, Iowa; and 22 grandchildren.

His wife, two daughters, two brothers and one sister preceded him in death. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Mount Hope Presbyterian Church, New Albin, Iowa. Rev. Edmund DeBuhr will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Friends may call at the Potter-Haugen Funeral Home in Caledonia Monday afternoon and evening at the church from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Frederick Allen Smith was born October 10, 1878 and died July 20, 1963. He married Elizabeth Ann Hahn on March 10, 1898, in Flandrau, South Dakota. After marrying they moved to Dorchester, Ia., where they worked on the Hartley farm.
