Waukon, Ia., Nov. 4 - John Barton Jones, one of the well known business men of Waukon, died at the family home here early Wednesday morning after several months illness.

He was born in Newport, Wales, Oct. 21, 1854, and came with some friends from England to Bloomington, Wis., when a young man, later coming to Allamakee county in 1875.

He began working in the elevator, then owned by Charles Howard and some several years later in partnership with M.W. Eaton he purchased what is still known as the Eaton and Jones elevator. He continued in this work up to the time of his illness.

In 1881, he was married to Miss Ada Goodrich of Waukon and during their married life of over 50 years they have resided in Waukon with the exception of several winters spent in California.

They are the parents of three children, Arthur, in business and who resides at home; and Mrs. Linn Hardon of Waukon, and Lyman who died when five years of age.

Mr. Barton served as county auditor four years and was closely identified with civic and county enterprises.

The death of John Barton Jones, member of the Eaton & Jones Elevator company of Waukon, occurred at his home here Tuesday night.

He was born at Newport, Wales, October 21, 1854, and was 78 years old. He came to Allamakee county in 1875, where he had since resided. For a time he was employed on the narrow guage railroad then being built into Waukon. In 1890 he was elected to the office of county auditor and served four years.

In 1881 he was wedded to Miss Ada Goodrich. Three children were born to this union, Alfred and Mrs. Lynn Hardon, both of Waukon. The youngest son, Lyman, died at the age of five years.

Funeral services were held at the late home of the deceased, Friday afternoon, with burial in Oakland cemetery.

Waukon, Ia., Nov. 5 - Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at the Barton home for John Barton Jones, well known Waukon business man who died Wednesday at his home here following a several months illness. The Rev. H.W. Singer of the Methodist church had charge of the services. Interment was made in Oakland cemetery. Those who supported the casket were Thomas O'Brien, Irving E. Beeman, Mayhew W. Eaton, Thomas Hartley, Modest Helser and John J. Arnold.
