STOEHR, GROTH, WEIHE, MATOON

R.J. Stoehr was born at Garnavillo, Iowa, April 18, 1860, the son of George and Rosella Groth-Stoehr. When still a small boy he came with his parents to Elgin, where he worked with his father in the grocery store, later going in the hardware business at Luana, Dubuque and Cedar Rapids, at which latter place the family had resided the past ten years.

On March 28, 1895, he was united in marriage in Elgin with Sophia Weihe of Postville. This union was blessed with one son, Harvey.

Mr. Stoehr passed away Thursday morning, Jan. 3, 1935, at St. Luke's hospital, Cedar Rapids, his death resulting from injuries received in an auto accident the Friday previous.

Mrs. Stoehr preceded him in death on December 27, 1934.

He is survived by his son, Harvey, one grandson, Richard, both of Cedar Rapids, one brother, Eugene Stoehr, of Elgin, one sister, Mrs. Lillian Matoon, of Hill City, S.D., other relatives and a host of friends, who will sadly miss him.

At the time of his passing he was aged 74 years, nine months and fifteen days.

The remains were brought to Postville, where on Friday afternoon last at 1:30 o'clock the funeral was held from St. Paul's Lutheran church, Dr. R.B. Garten officiating. Interment was made in Postville cemetery beside his wife.
