Funeral services were held Thursday, March 21 for William L. Cota, 94, of Harpers Ferry. He died Monday, March 18 at Thornton Manor in Lansing. The sevices were held at St. Ann-St. Joseph Church in Harpers Ferry. Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery with Hanson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Born May 4, 1896 in Harpers Ferry, he was the son of Theodore and Emma Ferette Cota. May 20, 1919 he and Marie Hawes were married at Wexford. A farmer and general maintenance worker, he was the last of a family of 12 children. He was a member of St. Ann's-St. Joseph's Church.

Surviving are nine children, Leo G. "Jerry", Robert and Richard of Harpers Ferry, Leon of Milwaukee, WI, Rose Foley of Waukon, Regina Jones of Waukesha, WI, Shirley Sholle of Placentia, CA, Sr. Mary Lou of Chicago, IL, and Sr. Kay of Minneapolis, MN; 29 grandchildren, and 58 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by three grandchildren, and brothers and sisters, Dennis, Martin, Jack, Deo, George Cote, Agnes Conway, Ellen Kernana, Louise Manning, Emma Cahalan, Cecilia Pugsley and Ida Kelly.

Casket bearers were Bill Foley, Jim Cota, Pat Cota, Bill Cota, Tom Mueller, and Brian Cota.

Honorary pall bearers were Ben Richardson, Ole Valley, Clem Hawes, Chuck Cota, Len Saddler, and John Brazell.
