Postville Herald, 29 May 1930 P 1 C 3MRS. ALFRED GORDON LAID TO REST LAST WEDNESDAY
Mrs. Rosalie Mary Gordon, nee Hemmings, passed away May 26, 1930, at the Methodist Hospital in Des Moines.
She was born August 15, 1880, north of Postville.
Thirty-two years ago on December 28, 1897, she was married to Alfred Gordon of Postville. This union was blessed with four children – Dell, Lyle, Raymond and Ivy. Besides her bereaved husband and children whom she leaves to mourn her loss, she is survived by five grandchildren.
Her late residence was at Goldfield, Iowa, where she was an active and devoted member of the Christian church.
Her husband and children call her blessed and will revere her memory as she was a loving helpmate and a faithful mother.
She was known as a good christian woman and her many friends held her in high esteem as a helpful neighbor and true friend.
She bore the cross patiently, which in the providence of God was her lot. She suffered much in her last protracted illness which extended over a period of nine months. The cause of her death was pernicious anemia.
She was aged 49 years, nine months and 11 days.
According to her wish her earthly remains were brought to Postville, the home of her childhood, where on Wednesday afternoon last funeral services were held from the home of Mrs. Wm. Gordon, the Rev. R. B. Garten, pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran church, officiating, following which the body was laid to rest beside that of her father in the cemetery at Rossville.
