Gretchen Gordon Passes On Sunday After Long Illness
Funeral Services Are Held Wednesday Afternoon, Many In Attendance
Miss Gretchen Gordon, aged 25 years, passed away Sunday evening at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred E. Gordon, in this city, following an illness of nearly four years, during most of which time she had been a patient at the Oakdale sanitarium, being brought here less than three weeks ago.
As Gretchen Gayle Gordon she was born in Postville on June 26, 1912. She attended the Postville public schools and graduated with the class of 1930 from the Postville high school. During the following year she attended the Iowa State Teachers College at Cedar Falls.
Besides her parents, she is survived by her sister, Ruth, now Mrs. Peter Ryken of Latimer, one brother, Keith, of Postville, and many other relatives, among which are her uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Harrington, with whom she was almost as intimate as with her own immediate family.
Being possessed of a charming disposition and personality, Gretchen won for herself many friends who remained loyal to her throughout her long illness, bestowing upon her remembrances from the time to time which lightened the tedious hours of her confinement. To these her courage and fortitude will ever be an exemplary remembrance.
Funeral services were held from the Community Presbyterian church Wednesday afternoon at 3:00 o'clock, with the Rev. G. DeF. Fisher of West Union officiating. Interment was made in Postville cemetery. Pallbearers were boys from her graduation class and girls from the class acted as flower girls.
