Caroline Sallach, nee Schlueter was born at Masso Pommern, Germany, March 10, 1820. She was united in marriage in 1844, and was blessed with eleven children, six of these preceeding the mother.

Her husband having died in 1870, Mrs. Sallach came to this country with some of her family in 1872, and took up her abode in Chicago for four years, then came to Iowa, settling down near Watson where she has since lived, enduring many hardships, yet arriving at an old age.

Dropsy, together with the advanced age, ended up a weary life on last Sunday, leaving four sons, one sister and two brothers, besides other relatives.

Mother Sallach had a remarkable memory. Hymns that were her comforters, she would recite to the satisfaction of the visitor. The burial took place on Wednesday. Services being held at the Watson church, conducted by Rev. Schuerman, and the body taken to the Watson cemetery for interment.
