Three miles south of New Albin , Iowa, on Tuesday, Gid. Bennett, while planting corn in the field with his wife and children, was struck by lightning and instantly killed. The others were uninjured.

Killed by Lightning

Lansing, May 26
On Monday a thunder storm of less than usual severity, passed over this section. There were only a few flashes of lightning, but one of them proved fatal. Mr. Gideon Bennett, a farmer at the sand cave, between Lansing and New Albin, while covering corn, and before the shower fell, was struck by the lightning and instantly killed.

Killed by Lightning - during the storm of Monday afternoon, Gideon Bennett, of Iowa Tp., was struck by lightning and instantly killed. He was in the field at the time planting corn, accompanied by his wife and hired man. The two latter received a severe shock but escaped with their lives.

Mr. Bennett is an honest, hardworking farmer, living about four miles from New Albin, and has a brother in this city. His untimely death is universally regretted and the sympathy of the community is tendered to the bereaved family and friends.

Note: Buried in Sand Cove cemetery, where he has a gravestone.
