KIVLAHAN, RYAN, KAUFMAN, STAFFORD

Obituary - Mrs. S. Kirlohan (sic), after an illness of several weeks, died at her home in Harpers Ferry, Dec. 15th, '83, in the 65th year of age. A native of Ireland, born in County Roseaman; came to America in 1835, was married at Cumberland, Md., Oct. 1838. Came to Allamakee county from Brownsville, Pa., in 1851.

She leaves a husband and four children, James, Michael, William and Mrs. Henry Kaufman, of North McGregor. Three brothers and one sister survive: Wm. Ryan of Deadwood, D.T.; Natt and John Ryan, of Mitchell, D.T., the latter formerly treasurer at Waukon; and Mrs. C. Staffbrd (Stafford?) of Dubuque.

Mrs. Kivlahan was a devout member of the Catholic church, a devoted mother and a beloved wife. Her remains were taken to the church of the Immaculate Conception and thence to Wexford cemetery. Rev. Father Kernan officiated. The husband and children have the sympathy of all acquainted with the deceased.

The 'Woodmansee' burial book gives her name as Maria Kivlahan, wife of Thomas. Surname on her gravestone is also spelled Kivlahan.
