Francis J. "Frank" Mullarkey, 63, of McGregor, IA, died Friday, Oct. 13, 1989, at Lutheran Hospital, La Crosse Wi.
He was born Apr. 5, 1926, to Ben and Mary McNemara Mullarkey at Lansing He married Mary Rego on Mar. 29, 1952, in St. Robert's Catholic Church, Milwaukee, WI.
Frank retired after 24 years of military service, serving in the U.S. Navy and Army. During the Korean War he received the Purple Heart. After retiring he was appointed Chief of Police in McGregor and served for several years before retiring.
Frank was a member of the American Legion and AMVETS.
Survivors include his wife, Mary; three sons, Michael of Richland Center, WI, Patrick of McGregor and James of Watertown, Wi; three daughters, Colleen Loetz of Spencer, Kathleen Willa of Portage, WI, and Sharon Mullarkey of McGregor; nine grandchildren; one brother, Vincent Mullarkey of Lansing; four sisters, Ann DeLong of Harpers Ferry, Elizabeth "Betty" Burg of Caledonia, MN, Mary Schellhammer of Milwaukee, WI, and Alice Luster of Lansing.
Services were held Monday, Oct. 16, 1989, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in McGregor with Father Donald Hutchinson officiating. The organist was Nancy Hammes and Larry Brummel was the vocalist. Burial was in Wexford Cemetery, rural Lansing. Military services were accorded by the Harpers Ferry and McGregor American Legion Honor Guards.
Pallbearers were nephews Roger Berg, Dennis Luster, Steve Mann, Jack Mullarkey, Tom Mullarkey, Joe Saddler, Glenn Schellhammer and Jim Brennan.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Linus Mullarkey; and one sister, Rita Brennan.
Thornburg Funeral Home, McGregor, was in charge of arrangements.
