Leo C. Jones, son of Mr. and Mrs. Perry Jones of Marquette, died Sunday in a New Hampton hospital from gun shot wounds accidentally inflicted while on a hunting trip Saturday near West Union.

Services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Pilkington funeral home here with the Rev. E.G. Steinman, pastor of the Methodist church, officiating. Military graveside rites were conducted by the American Legion.

Jones was born in Harpers Ferry on March 24, 1927. He received his education at McGregor and four years ago moved to Marquette. He was a World War II veteran, having seen service in the South Pacific area in the Navy.

Young Jones, his brother-in-law, Eugene Kramer, and his brother, John Jones, all of Marquette, and two friends from Prairie du Chien, Wis., were hunting pheasant. The accident occurred about eight miles west of West Union in Fayette county when Jones and Kramer both shot at a pheasant.

Jones received the blast of a shotgun in his back and head when his brother-in-law's gun accidentally discharged as Eugene Kramer raised it to his shoulder for a shot at a pheasant Jones had just missed.

Surviving are his parents, three sisters, Mrs. Ed. McGill of McGregor; Mrs. Eugene Kramer of Marquette, and Mrs. Richard Collier of Dubuque; four brothers, Dale, John and James, of Marquette, and Harley of McGregor. His father, a veteran of World War I is a patient at the McGregor hospital.

Jones started work as a butcher for a Postville meat packer two weeks ago.
