Earl F. Thomas, 87, passed away in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, on Saturday, April 26, 1997.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., Wednesday, May 7, at the First Lutheran Church in Sandpoint, Idaho. Pastor Steve Myers of the First Lutheran Church will officiate with interment following at Pinecrest Memorial Park.

Earl was born in Waukon, Iowa, on Aug. 24, 1909. He graduated from high school and junior college in Iowa. In Waukon he had a motorized paper route, and operated a delivery service from Waukon to LaCrosse, Wis., for a bottling company.

He married Charlotte Tysland on Oct. 9, 1940, in Waukon and had served with the U.S. Navy as a fireman at Farragut, Idaho, during World War II.

Following the war, he established his home in Sandpoint and went to work for the Sandpoint Fire Department, retiring as assistant fire chief in 1972. Earl had owned and rented houses in Sandpoint.

He was a member of the First Lutheran church and the Idaho Firefighters Association. He enjoyed fishing on Lake Pend Oreille, hunting and coffee at Connie's.

Earl is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, some living in the Midwest; and a close friend and companion, Carl Verdal of Sandpoint.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife, Charlotte, in 1984.
