Mrs. Fred King
Katherine Margaretha (Meyer) King, daughter of Henry and Katherine (Spechahn) Meyer was born in the township of York, DuPage Co., Ill., on Sept. 11, 1876. She was baptized Oct. 22, 1876, in the Capella Evangelical Proseminar, Elmhurst, Ill., by the Rev. Trof.
She received the rite of confirmation from the Rev. Birkner in 1890 in St. John's Evangelical Church, Union City township.
On Dec. 12, 1894, she was married to Fred King in St. John's Evangelical Church. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Vogelsang.
They purchased a farm in Iowa township, Allamakee county, and resided there until April, 1943. Then they moved to their present home in New Albin.
Mrs. King suffered a paralytic stroke eight days before her death. She died Friday evening, Nov. 25. She attained the age of 73 years, two months and 13 days.
She was a quiet, willing, helpful mother, neighbor and friend.
She is survived by her husband, one son, Leo, Iowa township; two daughters, Maymie (Mrs. Vincent Waters), Lydia (Mrs. Walter Krueger), New Albin; five grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. She is also survived by three sisters, Mrs. William Schuttemeier, Union City township; Mrs. Al Nesham, New Albin; Mrs. Carl Klawitter, La Crosse, and one brother, William Meyer, New Albin. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and one brother.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 o'clock Monday afternoon at St. Peter's Evangelical and Reformed church with the Rev. P. H. Franzmeier, pastor, officiating. Burial was made in St. John's cemetery in Union City township. Casketbearers were Walter F. Meyer, Gilman Meyer, Ed. and Art Klawitter, Armin and Walter Schuttemeier.
