ENGLISH BENCH, Sept. 9, 1895
Mr. and Mrs. John B. Sadler are called upon to mourn the loss of their baby boy, aged 7 weeks. The sympathy of all our people goes out to Mr. and Mrs. S. in their affliction. The little one was sick but one day, thus all the more poignant, being so sudden. Rev. Heath, of New Albin, preached an excellent sermon at Mt. Hope after which the remains were conveyed to the family burying ground on the Bench for interment.
Hark, ye, O winds, wild wind,One boon I earnest crave,
“Tis that ye softly, softly blowAbove our baby's grave.
Above the little mound
Where only dead leaves lie,
O sing as ye alone can sing,A tender lullaby.
Whisper to him O winds,
Whisper soft and low
Of our lonely, aching heart,And tears that vainly flow.
Of dreary, restless nights
Since he has gone away,
Of longings passionate and keenAll through the empty day.
Yet stay; breathe this, O winds,
(Hope is conquering pain)
That sometime, somewhere, to our heartWe'll clasp our babe again
-Julia A. Willams, in Housekeeper
CARD OF THANKS
We wish to return sincere thanks to those kind friends who so generously and unreservedly gave aid and sympathy during the death and burial of our dear babe. May the Good Shepherd keep a like shadow from falling over your homes.
