Bernard J. Finnegan passed away on Monday evening at 6:30 o'clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Monica Herzog and husband in this city, with whom he and his aged wife had been making their home of late, at the age of 75 years, nine months and four days.

Mr. Finnegan had been in poor health for some time previous to his death. Deceased was born at Greensburgh, Pennsylvania, on Aug. 19, 1851, where he spent his boyhood days. In the year 1862 he came to Iowa with his parents, settling on a farm near Harper's Ferry in Allamakee county.

He also resided at Shenandoah, Iowa, for a time, where he was united in marriage with Miss Cathrine Lannigan. Soon after their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Finnegan returned to Allamakee county where they successfully engaged in farming for many years.

Two years ago they came to Guttenberg to make their home, where deceased spent the remainder of his life.

Mr. Finnegan was a man of a pleasing personality which won for him many friends during life, and he was a kind and true husband, father, brother and friend. His greatest pleasure in life at all times was to do acts of kindness for his family and friends. During his illness all was done that could be done to save his life, but all failed when the Angel of Death called him to the Great Beyond. Mr. Finnegan was a faithful member of the Catholic church.

His death is deeply mourned by his aged widow, six children: Bernard Finnegan, of Bassett, Iowa; Mrs. Mary Brown of Chicago, Ill.; Miss Catherine Finnegan of Mason City, Iowa; James and Thomas Finnegan and Mrs. Monica Herzog of Guttenberg; ten grandchildren, one brother, James J. Finnegan of Harpers Ferry, Iowa, and many other relatives and friends by whom this good and true man will be sadly missed. One daughter has preceded the father in death.

The body was taken to Allamakee county for burial on Wednesday morning, where funeral services were conducted by Rev. Nolan at St. Joseph's Catholic church at Paint Rock. Interment was made in the Catholic cemetery at Paint Rock.
