Former Local Resident Had Passed Away Mar. 21 At Oklahoma City, Okla.
Funeral services for Mrs. Myrtle May Read, who had passed away in Oklahoma City the Sunday before, were held in the Schutte Funeral Home on last Thursday afternoon with the Rev. L. H. Newhouse in charge. Interment was in Smith cemetery, Post township.
Myrtle May Cutshaw was born to David and Adele Cutshaw in Lancaster, Wis., on June 19, 1876. Her father passed away when she was one year old and her mother later married Albert Corson of Bloomington Prairie, Ill., whereupon they moved to Independence, Iowa, and from there to a small farm near Forest Mills.
On February 14, 1891, she was united in marriage to Eugene A. Read and they resided upon the latter's homestead at Forest Mills until the death of Mr. Read on November 24, 1920.
To this union four children were born, Violet C. Read of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Mrs. Rosamond Olney of Omaha, Nebr., LaVerne L. Read, who passed away during infancy, and Opal Adelia Read of Washington, D. C.
In August of 1921 Mrs. Read and her daughter, Opal, moved to Postville, where they lived for eight years. In August, 1929, they went to Oklahoma City to be with Miss Violet Read, a teacher in the public schools of that city and with whom she continued to reside until her passing March 21, 1943.
Mrs. Read was a member of Post Rebekah Lodge of this city and took an active interest in the Women's Christian Temperance Union. She was a charter member of the Community Presbyterian church in Postville and in Oklahoma City she was a member of the First Presbyterian Women's Circle.
In addition to her three daughters, Mrs. Read is survived by two grandchildren, Eugene Lee Olney and Mary Rose Olney of Omaha, Nebr., two brothers, George Corson and Will Corson, and one sister, Mrs. John Morgan, all of Austin, Minnesota.
