Merle Ruckdaschel
Merle "Rucky" Ruckdaschel, son of Victor and Tonette Josephine (Halverson) Ruckdaschel was born July 3, 1914 in Postville, Iowa. He died January 31, 1995 at Veterans Memorial Hospital, Waukon, Iowa. He was 80 years old.
Merle was baptized at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville. He attended rural Postville schools. In August of 1940, he was married to Rachel Henry at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.
Merle was a lifetime area resident. He was a member of "Old Threshers Steam Engine Day" in Mt. Pleasant. He enjoyed pocket watches, his old "Case" tractors, steam engines, designing mechanical devices, farming, participating in the Waukon Threshing Day parades and spending time with his wife and family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, infant son (Ronald Joseph), sister, Ileta Christoferson and half-brother Earl Ruckdashel. He is survived by his wife, Rachel of Waukon; four daughters, Julaine and husband George Hartley of Platteville, Wis., Carol Price of Calmar, Ruth and husband Reed Isom of St. George, Utah, Mary Lou and husband Lyle Baer Jr. of Marshalltown, Iowa; a son, Rueben Ruckdashel of St. George, Utah and a sister Eunice Halvorson of Monona. Also surviving are a half-brother, Orville and wife, Marie Ruckdashel of Monona, half-sisters Betty Knuth of Story City, Iowa and Rose Marie and husband Oliver Doerring of Monona, 14 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Thursday, February 2, 1995 at Martin Funeral Home of Waukon with graveside services held Friday at Oakland Cemetery with the Rev. Lynn Groe officiating.
Honorary casket bearers were Dorf Halverson, Harold Halverson, Devire Halverson, Robert Schneider, Stanley Schroeder, Dale Anderson and Bob Gallagher.
Casket bearers were George Hartley, Jr., Matt Price, Mike Hartley, Joseph Steil, Heather Baer, Melanie Giannetto and Shelly Estaban.
Arrangements were made by Martin Funeral Home, Waukon, Iowa.
Note: The name Ruckdaschel changes to Ruckdashel but that is the way the obit is printed. It is not a typing error on my part.
