Services Held For Elmer C. Schutte

Funeral services were held Thursday, June 6 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville for Elmer C. Schutte, who died at Palmer Memorial Hospital in West Union, Tuesday, June 4.

The son of August and Lena Diedritch Schutte, Elmer was born June 11, 1902 near Castalia. He was baptized August 3, 1902 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville and confirmed April 16, 1916 by the Rev. E. Schmidt of St. Paul's.

On September 24, 1925 he was united in marriage to Marie Backhaus at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville. The couple farmed in the Castalia area until they moved to Postville in 1952. He was employed by the Scenic Ridge Telephone Co. for a number of years. He also served on the church Council from 1944 to 1948. He enjoyed his leisure time in his carpentry shop.

Preceding him in death were his parents and a brother and sister who died in infancy.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Eugene, Luana and Lloyd of Castalia, one daughter, Mrs. Ivan (Eleanor) Torkleson, Elgin; ten grandchildren; two brothers, Helmuth and Walter both of Castalia; four sisters, Mrs. Amanda Sander, Luana and Mrs. Florence Miene, Postville; Mrs. Marie Miene, Monona and Mrs. Velma Block, Postville.
