Joseph Sadler Was One of County Pioneer Residents
Joseph Grant Sadler, son of William and Mary Sadler, was born on the English Bench in Allamakee county, August 28, 1860, and passed to his reward Tuesday evening, May 14, at the home of his son Urban at New Albin, at the age of 74 years, eight months and 16 days.
His entire life with the exception of the last few years was spent in the English Bench neighborhood. Possessing a cheerful disposition, he readily made friends with all with whom he came in contact, and he was ever ready to lend a helping hand to all that were in need.
During the last few years of his life, he was a patient sufferer from asthma, which was the cause of his death. Early in life he joined the Mt. Hope Presbyterian church, remaining a member until death.
He was united in marriage with Miss Laura C. Beardmore, June 30, 1885. To this union were born five sons, and a daughter, one son passing away in infancy and another one, Roy, passing away two years ago. His good wife departed this life April 12, 1901, leaving him with five young children, to whom he has ever been a kind and loving father.
He leaves to mourn his loss one daughter, Mrs. Russell Roberts of Waukon, and three sons, Clifford A., of Lansing, Urban of New Albin, and Wayne, of the English Bench neighborhood; also one sister, Mrs. Ada Martin of Sparta, Wis., and two brothers, William and Edward of English Bench. There are nine grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends. Two sisters and one brother preceded him in death.
Burial was made in Mt. Hope cemetery and services were conducted by Rev. Van Nice of Waukon. Pallbearers: Eb Beardmore, Ed Martin, Clyde Sadler, Arthur Beardmore, Earl Beardmore and John Sadler.
