Postville - Army Spec. 5 Susan Hope Smith, 21, a Postville native who was stationed with the army at Fort Hood, Texas, died Tuesday in an automobile accident near Blackwell, Okla., while enroute home for a leave.

Authorities said her car went out of control on the turnpike near Blackwell and skidded. She was thrown out.

Born March 11, 1951, at Postville, she had served three years in the army and had planned to re-enlist.

Surviving are her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Smith of rural Postville; three brothers, Sid of Cedar Rapids, and Ivan and John at home; five sisters, Mrs. Marvin Suchow of Postville, Mrs. Roy Highley and Mrs. Franklin Banes, both of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Roger Potts of Marion and Mrs. Richard Goeke of Manchester; and her paternal grandmother, Mrs. Alfred Smith of rural Postville.

Services: Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in the Forest Mills United Methodist church. Burial: Rossville cemetery. Visitation Saturday from 8 to 11 a.m. Schutte funeral home, and at the church from noon until the service.
