WALTERS, MOORE, CARPENTER, HENDERSON, BEAL

Rossville, Ia., Aug 19 - Jackson Walters, resident of this community for sixty nine years, passed away at his farm home one mile south of Rossville, Sunday evening, at the age of 96 years.

Mr. Walters was one of twelve children born to Peter and Margaret Walters, in Verange county, Pennsylvania on June 20, 1829. His father was a shingle maker and Jackson worked at the trade until he was nineteen years of age when he decided to go west and walked to Iowa for a visit with an older brother who lived in Clayton county.

After he returned to Pennsylvania on December 15, 1853, he was united in marriage with Miss Maria Moore of Medina, Ohio. Together this young couple came to Iowa and located on a farm near Rossville, which place, has been the family home and which home tells a story of hardships, privations, preservance.

Mr. Walters was bereft of his devoted companion on December 21, 1913, after more than sixty years of wedded life.

Five children live to mourn his passing. Namely: Mrs. Dema Carpenter of Waukon; Emery of Rossville; Freedom on an adjoining farm; VanDorn and Miss Nettie at home, One daughter, Mrs. Hulda Henderson died on February 5, 1904.

There are also thirteen grand children, twenty-six great grand-children and one great great grand-child. He is also survived by his youngest sister, Mrs. Emaline Beal of Lorraine, Ohio, who is 89 years of age.

The funeral services will be conducted at the Rossville Baptist church, with which has been affiliated for many years, with burial in the Rossville cemetery. Rev. Bodenham of Riceville, a former pastor at Rossville, will officiate.
