GERTRUDE L. SNITKER 1907-1994

Gertrude L. Snitker, daughter of Henry and Augusta Klepper Snitker, was born Sept. 6, 1907 on her parents' Ludlow Township, Allamakee county, Iowa farm. She died April 25, 1994 at the Northgate Care Center, Waukon, Iowa. She was 86. She grew up in Ludlow Township. She attended Ludlow #9 and Frankville rural schools, and also Waukon High School. She was a lifetime member of Salem United Church of Christ, where she was baptized and confirmed in German. She spent her working time caring for sick and elderly people, either family or others, in their homes. She would often live with them for many years in the process. She enjoyed reading books and writing letters to people. The last 30 years she has kept house for and lived with her nephew, Dale Hesse.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Arthur, Daniel and Leo Snitker; and her sister, Anna Hesse. Surviving are two sisters, Leona Duvel and Mabel Winke, both of Waukon; and a nephew, Dale Hesse of Waukon. Also surviving are many other nieces and nephews.

Funeral service was held Thursday, April 21, 1994 at the Salem United Church of Christ, the Rev. Dr. Elsa Marsland officiating. Burial was at the Salem Cemetery. Arrangements were by Martin Funeral Home, Waukon, Iowa.
