MORTIMER FERRIS
At his home in Waukon, Iowa Aug. 23, 1921, Mortimer Churbray Ferris aged eighty-one years, four months and thirteen days.
Mr. Ferris was born in Oswego County, New York, April 10, 1831. He came to Waukon in 1855, and was married to Miss Olive Hill June 3, 1857. That season they built the residence which was the family home till his death with the exception of some ten years, the Ferris Bros., M. C. and O. F. were in charge of the Ferris’ Mills on the Upper Iowa river. Six children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Ferris, of whom Della May died in 1890, and Charles Mortimer in 1911.
There remains to mourn his loss his wife and four sons; Kendrick V. of Church, Iowa, Frank W. of Rochester, Minn., Daniel H. of Waterloo, Iowa and Leigh O. of St. Paul, Minn. Also two brothers, Oscar F. of Waukon, and Daniel V. of Syracusa, N. Y. There are thirteen grand children and four great grand children.
Mr. Ferris was one of the best known and most highly respected citizens, of a kindly disposition, everybody his friend, and he exhibited the Christian virtues of good will toward men in his daily life. A kind and loving husband and father, a good neighbor, he will be missed by many.
The funeral was held at the residence Tuesday afternoon conducted by Rev. J. Arthur Young of the Methodist Episcopal church assisted by Rev. R. L. Van Nice of the Presbyterian church and interment made in Oakwood cemetery.
