OLD RESIDENT PASSES AWAY

MRS. MORTIMER FERRIS DIED MONDAY AT THE AGE OF EIGHTY TWO YEARS

Native of Canada---Came to Allamakee County Seventy Years Ago---Funeral Today

Mrs. Mortimer Ferris for seventy years a resident of Allamakee county and who reside in Waukon the past fifty years passed away Monday at the age of eighty-two years, six months and ten days.

Olive C. Ferris was born in Canada March 16, 1839. Her parents bought her to the United States when she was about six years old, They settled first in Illinois, but when Olive was 12 years of age, they removed to Iowa. They settled in Allamakee county on the farm now owned by Mr. Charles Rumph. Her home has been in this county since that time, and for nearly 50 years in has been in Waukon.

Miss Hill was united in marriage with Mr. Mortimer Ferris June 3, 1857. Mr. Ferris passed to the other life in 1912. To this couple were born six children, two of whom had passed away through death. Four remain to mourn for a good and kind mother. The living are Ken, Daniel and Frank of Waukon, and Lee of St. Paul, Minnesota.

Mrs. Ferris united with the Methodist church many years ago and has lived a consistant Christian life. She was of a lovely disposition that made those who became acquainted with her friends. She is gone but the impress of her character and life will live in these who she has left behind.

The funeral will be held today at 2 o’clock from her late home, conducted by Rev. R. L. Van Nice, and burial will be in Oakland cemetery.

Aged Lady Called to Her Reward

The death of Mrs. Mortimer Ferris occurred at her home in this city on Monday, Sept. 26, 1921, after a long period of ill health. Her age was 82 years. Her maiden name was Miss Olive C. Hill and she was born in Canada on March 16, 1839. When six years of age she came with her parents to this country, first settling in Illinois, and later moving to Iowa. They settled on what is now known as the Charles Rumph farm in this township The home of the deceased had been in the county since that time, and for nearly fifty years it has been in Waukon.

On June 3, 1857, she was united in marriage with Mr. M. C. Ferris, who passed away in 1912. Six children were born to this union, four of whom are living, namely, Kenneth, Daniel and Frank of this vicinity, and Lee of St. Paul. Mrs. Ferris was a member of the Methodist church for many years. Funeral services will be held from the Ferris home this Wednesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Van Nice, with burial in Oakland cemetery.
