Harrison Johnson

Harrison "Harry" Charles Johnson, 68, of Parkview Trailer Court, Waukon, died Sept. 1, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Iowa City.

He was born Nov. 8, 1920 at rural Postville, near Forest Mills, the son of Ruth Ralston and LeRoy Johnson. He later operated Johnson's Service Station and Store at Forest Mills. The last 10 years he worked at Sweeney's Farm and Home in Waukon.

He was educated at a rural school, Jefferson Township #8, and at Waukon High School, which he attended 2 years.

He was in the Navy from 1944 to 1946, serving aboard the USS Stanley in the South Pacific. He was a member of the American Legion.

He was divorced from Darlene Leitz, who survives him. Other survivors include the following brothers and sisters: Milbourn Johnson, Waukon; Orville Johnson, Phoenix; Levi Johnson, Sisters, OR; Hazel Ordway and Mary Johnson, Yucca Valley, CA.

Services were Sept. 4 at Martin Funeral Chapel, Waukon, conducted by Rev. Lynn Groe. Burial was in Smithfield Cemetery, following graveside rites.

Pallbearers were Harva Oelberg, Jan Sweeney, Art Gelo, Ray Van Gorder, Hartley Enyart, Sr. and Bertin Juvik.

Harrison Johnson
Harrison Charles “Harry” Johnson, 68, of Waukon died Friday, Sept. 1 at the VA Medical Center in Iowa City. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 4 at Martin Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Lynn Groe officiating. Burial was in Smithfield Cemetery with graveside military rites.
He was born Nov. 8, 1920 near Forest Mills, rural Postville, to L.R.V. (LeRoy) and Ruth Ralston Johnson and attended Jefferson Township #8 school and two years at Waukon High School. He was in the Navy from 1944 to 1946 during WWII serving on the USS Stanley in the South Pacific. He operated Johnson’s Service Station and Store in Forest Mills, and for the last ten years had worked at Sweeney’s Village Farm and Home in Waukon. He was a member of the American Legion. Surviving are his ex-wife, Darlene Leitz, two sisters, Hazel Ordway and Mary Johnson, both of Yucca Valley, Ca.; three brothers, Levi Johnson of Sisters, Or., Milbourn Johnson of Waukon and Orville Johnson of Phoenix, Az.., and numerous nieces and nephews.
Casket bearers were Harva Oelberg, Jan Sweeney, Art Gelo, Ray Van Gorder, Hartley Enyart Sr. and Bartin Juvik.
