Evelyn (Sweeney) Kelly Fossum, age 85, of Edwardsville, Kansas, formerly of Marion, Iowa and Waukon, Iowa, died Thursday, March 2, 2017 in Olathe, Kansas. Funeral services were held on March 6, 2017 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Kansas City, Kansas. Burial will be held at a later date in the Edwardsville Cemetery in Edwardsville, Kansas.

Survivors include her children Terry Kelly of Olathe, Kathy Gilbrieath of Gardner, Kansas, Ricky Kelly of Santee, California, Kris Battaglia of Littleton, Colorado, and Tim Kelly of Edwardsville; 3 grandchildren, Morgan Kelly of Gardner, Alyssa Kelly, and Tyler Kelly, both of Edwardsville.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents Rose and Mike Sweeney; her husbands, Gerald Kelly and Lowell Fossum; son, Stevie Kelly; siblings Cecilia (Sweeney) Schofield, Ralph Sweeney, Rita Sweeney, Helen (Sweeney) Smorstad, Rosella (Sweeney) Henderson, Ray Sweeney, and Leonard Sweeney.

Evelyn "Evie" Sweeney was born June 14, 1931 in Waukon, Iowa to Michael "Mike" and Rose (Quillan) Sweeney. She was one of nine children born to Mike and Rose. While attending high school in Waukon, she was elected homecoming queen in her sophomore year. Soon after she married Gerald Kelly and they made their home in Marion,Iowa where they raised five children and laid to rest one. She later met Lowell Fossum and spent the next 23 wonderful years with Lowell living and loving life. Evelyn was known as a very stylish and spunky lady who always would dress to the nines no matter the occasion. With a heart much younger than her years, she always was up for a good time and could often be seen celebrating life, laughing and dancing well into her golden years. She always had a place at her table for friend and stranger alike. She enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest, remaining very active and sharp until the very end. She will be dearly missed not only by family but many friends.
