SOURCE: Family records of Caroline (Robey) Madsen, granddaughter of Caroline and Hezekiah Robey, daughter of Edgar Wilson Robey. Dated May 29, 1904 (not certain if this was a newspaper clipping printed in the Waukon newspaper or the Lake Park, Iowa newspaper where Caroline Madsen lived).
Contributor: Connie (Kelly) Ellis - gt.gt.gt.gt. granddaughter of Hezekiah and Caroline Robey and Kelly/Robey family researcherMiss Caroline Porter was born in Monongalia County, Virginia (now West Virginia) on November 9, 1821 to Thomas Porter and Katherine Pixler. Caroline Porter married Hezekiah Robey in Monongalia County on December 15, 1842. There were seven children born to them with three surviving their mother, Calvin A. Robey, and Marshall L. Robey of Rossville, Iowa, and Edgar W. Robey of Lake Park, Iowa. In 1855 the Robey family left Virginia and settled on a homestead in Jefferson Township, Allamakee County, Iowa. Hezekiah passed away on December 30, 1858 leaving his widow to raise their seven children which included their youngest child who was six weeks old when his father died. Since his death much of the care of the interests of home and farm have been shared by a devoted son, Marshall.
Mrs. Robey, at the age of fourteen, became a member of the Presbyterian Church and during her long life was faithful to her church and family. After a long illness, she passed to the other world on May 20, 1904 at the age of 82 years, 6 months, and 11 days. Services were held at the Presbyterian Church in Rossville by Rev. Van Nice and the remains laid to eternal rest in the graveyard at Rossville,Iowa.

The four deceased children were:
1. Kiziah Mary Robey 1857-1857, Allamakee County, Iowa. It is not known if she was buried in the Rossville Cemetery or if she was buried on the family homestead.
2. James Hezekiah Robey born November 14, 1858 Jefferson Township, Allamakee County, Iowa and died August 9, 1865 Jefferson Township, Allamakee County, Iowa. He is buried in the Rossville Cemetery.
3. Sarah Catherine "Kate" Robey born October 20, 1851 Monongalia County, Virginia and died May 1, 1883 Jefferson Township, Rossville, Iowa. Sarah is buried in the Rossville Cemetery.
4. John Clark Robey born July 15, 1848 Monongalia County, Virginia and died March 3, 1893 Waukon, Iowa. John is buried in the Oakland Cemetery in Waukon, Iowa.Transcriber note #2:
Edgar Wilson Robey's name has also been listed in some records as Eager Wilson Robey and Edward Wilson Robey. He was born on May 26, 1854 and died September 12, 1927 in Lake Park, Dickinson County, Iowa.

The names of Conrad Robey, Margaret Robey, and Rebecca Robey are listed in the Dale Woodmansee Allamakee County Cemetery records for the Rossville Cemetery. As of January 2017, there is no record that they are connected to any of the Robey ancestors who lived in Monongalia County, Virginia or any of the descendants who lived in Allamakee County, Iowa.
