Funeral services were held Thursday morning, Sept. 17, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, New Albin, for Mrs. J.E. Welsh who died enroute to a La Crosse, WI, hospital following an auto accident in Onalaska, WI, Sunday evening.

Winifred M. Waters was born March 4, 1889, in Allamakee County, the daughter of Edward and Kathryn (Ryan) Waters. She received her education in the New Albin area schools, and was graduated from the teachers college in Winona, MN. She taught school for several years in this vicinity and worked for a time in Minneapolis, MN, in a bank in Chicago, IL, and at the Farmers Exchange Bank in New Albin for several years.

On June 19, 1922, she was married to J. Earl Welsh, who survives.

She was knows as "Winnie" to her many acquaintances and a large circle of friends who will miss her cheerful kindness. She was a willing worker in community affairs, and spent many hours visiting the sick and aged.

Besides her husband she is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Peter Whalen of New Albin, and Mrs. Daniel Regan of Waterloo.

Father Edgar Kolfenbach offered the Requiem Mass and said the final prayers at the graveside in St. Joseph's Cemetery where interment was made. Casket bearers were Leo, Raymond and Dale Whalen, Daniel and Donald Regan, and Bernard Casey.
