Ruth Schafer, 83, of Lansing, died Thursday, Feb. 20, in a Waukon nursing home.

She was born Aug. 24, 1891, in Keokuk, to Leon and Sophia Chevillon, and married Fredrick Schafer on Oct. 5, 1920. She was a longtime school teacher in Lansing and Waterville, and served as principal of the New Albin school for nine years.

Survivors are a son, John Phillip of Flagstaff, Ariz.; a daughter, Mrs. Frank (Lois Anne) Rosen of Chicago, Ill.; four grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Cecil (Leonore) Trueblood of Holland, Mich.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in the United Methodist Church, Lansing. Rev. Alvin W. Ebert will officiate and burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Burke-Thornburg Funeral Home, Lansing, after 2 p.m. today, with Eastern Star services to be at 8 p.m.
