Mrs. Ruth Irons, 84, New Albin, died Thursday, Jan. 6, 1983, at Northgate Manor Nursing Home in Waukon.

She was born Feb. 12, 1898, to William Thompson and Laura McDonald at Sand Cove, Allamakee count, Iowa. She married Ernest "Pat" Irons on Dec. 29, 1915, in Waukon.

She is survived by three sons, Ben, Lansing, Robert, Waukon, and Wayne, Davenport; seven daughters, Mrs. Laura Karczewski, Chicago, Mrs. Ruth Zeiner, Waterloo, Mrs. Barbara Mellem, Soldiers Grove, Wis., Mrs. Marjorie Haar, Oelwein, Mrs. Beverly Smiley, Kewaunee, Wis., Mrs. Lorna Strong, La Crosse, Wis., and Mrs. Karen Nickels, Deer River, Minn.; 40 grandchildren; and 65 great-grandchildren.

Her husband died April 7, 1975. She was also preceded in death by three sons and one daughter.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Grace United Methodist Church, New Albin, with Rev. Tom Mattson officiating. Burial will be in the New Albin City Cemetery.

Visitation will be Sunday from 1-4 p.m. at the Burke-Thornburg Funeral Home, Lansing, and also from 6:30-9 p.m. at the funeral chapel in New Albin.
