Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 7, 1975, at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, New Albin, for Mrs. George Mauss, 91, of New Albin, who died Monday, May 5 at Northgate Manor in Waukon. Father James McBride officiated and burial was in the church cemetery.
Florence A. Hammell was born Oct. 15, 1883, in Allamakee county to Joseph and Paulene (Troendle) Hammell. On May 3, 1910, she married George Mauss in New Albin. He preceded her in death in May, 1928. Four sons, Bernard, Fred and Connie of New Albin, and Mark of Waukon, survive. Thirty-one grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren also survive. Three brothers, Joe, Fred and Con, and one sister, Minnie, preceded her in death. A brother, George Hammell Sr., lives in New Albin.
Mrs. Mauss was educated in the local schools and operated the Mauss Hatchery in New Albin for 50 years. She was a Forester and a member of the Altar and Rosary Society of St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
Bill, Dick, Larry, Frank, David and Jerry Mauss were pallbearers.
Martin Brothers Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
