Ernest A. Richards, 86, New Albin, died Sunday, March 18, in his home.

He was born in Reno, Minn., on April 10, 1897, to Peter and Mary (Schwedler) Richards. He married Marie Roth on May 2, 1917.

Richards was a farmer in the New Albin area until 1945 and later was employed by the Dresselhaus Hardware Store in New Albin until his retirement.

Survivors are his wife; four sons, Bernet of New Albin, Robert of Brownsville, Minn., Joseph of Sundance, Wyo., and James of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; two daughters, Mrs. Eugene (Harriet) Peske of Minneapolis and Mrs. Gaylord (Ruby) Schoh of Waukon; 19 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Martha Neumann of Caledonia.

He was preceded in death by three grandchildren.

Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. in St. Peter's United Church of Christ, New Albin. The Rev. Richard Waters will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Friends may call at the New Albin Funeral Chapel today after 4 p.m., and at the church on Wednesday from 1 p.m. until the services.

The Haugen-Roble Funeral Home, Caledonia, Minn., is in charge of arrangements.
