Paul "Kayo" Spinner, 80, of Lansing, died Monday, March 18, 2002, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Paul Spinner was born in Lansing on June 15, 1921, to Peter and Mary (Serene) Spinner.

He is a 1949 graduate of the University of Iowa College of Medicine with a degree in pharmacy. He practiced pharmacy in Fort Dodge, Iowa, Chicago, Ill., and La Crosse. In La Crosse, he met and married LaVerne Hintgen on Dec. 27, 1962, at St. Joseph's Cathedral.

They moved to Lansing in 1963. Since then he owned and operated Spinner Drug Store, which he continued to operate until his death. Paul served in the Navy during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion for more than 50 yers.

Paul is survived by his wife, LaVerne of Lansing; a brother, Lou Spinner of Lansing; a sister-in-law, Agatha Spinner of Lansing; and a niece, Betty (Sam) Bell of Columbus Junction, Iowa.

Paul was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Charles Spinner.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 21, 2002, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lansing, with the Rev. Daniel Knipper officiating. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery, Lansing, where military rites will be accorded by the Beck-GlennStrong Post #50 of the American Legion. Friends may call today from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Thornburg-Hanson Funeral Home, Lansing, where there will be a parish scriptureservice at 4:15 p.m.
