Aileen May Collins died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 1999, in Amery, Wis., after a brief illness. She was born Aileen Louise May on Oct. 6, 1909, in New Albin, Iowa. Her parents were George Burton May and Fannie (Dailey) May. She married Aloysius Edward Collins at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in New Albin on June 19, 1940.

Aileen spent most of her time working life as a civil servant in Washington, DC., St. Paul and Minneapolis, Minn. She was active in St. Elizabeth's parish in Minneapolis, placed a high value on education and, until very recently, enjoyed working the New York Times crossword puzzles in ink.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers Orville, Leon (Pete), Ronald (Pondo) and Henry May; and sisters Nita and Mona May, Doris Spinner and Clare Van Heel.

She is survived by her children, Frances (Richard) Bukrey, Michael (Mary Cummins) Collins, Terence (Carol Miller) Collins, Elizabeth (George Stroebel) Collins and Kevin (Linda Smith) Collins; one brother, Gerald May of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; 10 grandchildren, Jonathan and Christopher Bukrey, Jeffrey (Jolene) and Brian (Cindy) Collins, Molly and Bronwyn Collins, Halley Miller, Ian Anderson, Will Stroebel and Caitlin Aileen Collins; good friend, Robin (David) Evans; Goddaughter, Margaret Van Heel; and many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Sept. 4 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Amery, officiated by Fr. Drummie and Deacon Heiser. She was buried later that day at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in New Albin, with Father Charipar leading the burial service. Her grandchildren served as pallbearers.
