Albert F. Fruechte, 91, of New Albin, Iowa, died Sunday, December 14, 1997, at the Thornton Manor Care Center, Lansing, Iowa.

He was born January 12, 1906, in Allamakee County, Iowa, to Herman and Sophia (Deters) Fruechte. On January 23, 1951, Albert married Norma Paus in Frankfort, Ill. Albert was employed by the New Albin Savings Bank from 1926 until 1986, when he semi-retired. He then continued to work at the bank on a part time basis. Albert was active in the community, serving on many organizations. He also was an active member of the St. Peter's United Church of Christ in New Albin.

Survivors include his wife, Norma of New Albin; a daughter, Renee (Mark) Hammell of Lansing, Iowa; two sons, Steven Fruechte of La Crosse, Wis., and Barry (Lisa) Fruechte of New Albin; six grandchildren, Nicholas and Levi Hammell, and Betsy, Bart, Jay and Sophia Fruechte; a sister, Hilda Bunge of Spring Grove, Minn.; and a sister-in-law, Helen Fruechte of Caledonia, Minn. Albert was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and three brothers.

Funeral services will be Thursday, December 18 at 11 a.m. from St. Peter's United Church of Christ, New Albin. Rev. Roger Peterson will officiate. Burial will take place at a later time. Friends may call at the New Albin Funeral Chapel on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m.; and at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. The Haugen- Roble-Jandt Funeral Home, Caledonia, is in charge of arrangements.
