DRESSELHAUS, THIMMESCH, FREILINGER, IRONS, WELPER, RICHARDS, MINEART

Gladys Dresselhaus, 86, formerly of New Albin, died Sat., Aug. 26, 2000, at the Lutheran Home, Caledonia, MN, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

She was born March 31, 1914, in Allamakee County, to Nicholas and Mary (Freilinger) Thimmesch. Gladys graduated from New Albin High School, completed her Normal Training, and then taught school for one year. She married Stanley Irons and to this marriage one daughter, Dixie Mae, was born. Gladys later married Leslie Dresselhaus. To this union three children, Sandra Jean, Sheryl Rae, and Robert Leslie were born.

Gladys and Leslie lived in New Albin where they owned and operated the hardware store. On July 5, 1982, Leslie preceded Gladys in death. Gladys continued to live in New Albin until November of 1988, when she moved into the Buckley Apartments in Caledonia.

Gladys enjoyed her family, friends, bird watching and traveling. She also enjoyed to crochet and quilt, and lovingly made dozens of quilts and afghans for her family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, and will be greatly missed by all of them.

Survivors include a son, Robert (Sandy), New Albin; three daughters, Dixie Mineart, Mason City, Sheryl Welper, New Albin, and Sandra (Virgil) Richards, Rapid City, SD; fifteen grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Gladys was preceded in death by her parents; one sister; four brothers; one great-grandchild; and two sons-in-law, Shadow Mineart and Merle Welper.

A private memorial service was conducted Sept. 1, 11 a.m., at the Haugen-Roble-Jandt Funeral Home, Caledonia. Rev. Roger Vomhof of the Caledonia Lutheran Home officiated. A private burial followed in the New Albin City Cemetery.
