NEW ALBIN MAN KILLED ON CYCLE

James Alan Darling, New Albin, was killed June 7, sometime after midnight, due to injuries incurred while operating a motorcycle 1.2 miles west of Hwy. 26 near New Albin.

Injured was Darling’s passenger, Janet Dias, New Albin. The woman was transported to La Crosse Lutheran Hospital, La Crosse, WI, and initially filed in critical condition with multiple internal injuries. According to a June 13 conversation with hospital emergency staff, Dias currently remains in serious condition.

Iowa State Patrol press release indicates Darling to have been south bound on county road A11 when the accident occurred, placing he and Dias into the west ditch. The accident victims were discovered by a passerby shortly after 7 a.m. Darling was pronounced fatal at the scene.

Responding to the call was the New Albin Police Department, Waukon Sheriff Department, three Iowa State Patrol vehicles, New Albin Rescue and Med Link of La Crosse.

Reports indicate Darling to have been operating a 1998 Harley Davidson motorcycle. Helmets and/or other safety equipment was not used by either party.
