Rita Ann Krzebietke, 77, of New Albin, IA, died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2005, at Franciscan Skemp Medical Center, La Crosse, WI.

She was born in Prairie du Chien, WI, on March 9, 1927, to John and Otillia (Hosek) Zlabek.

She married William L. Bernier on June 2, 1956, in St. Gabrielle's Catholic Church, Prairie du Chien. He preceded her in death April 14, 1983.

Rita then married Karl J. Krzebietke on Feb. 14, 1987.

Rita was a graduate of St. Mary's Academy, class of 1945, in Prairie du Chien. She was a devout Catholic who loved her family, friends and her Catholic faith as a dedicated member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in New Albin, Iowa, serving as the choir director and director of religious education for many years. She was also a member of St. Joseph's Altar Society and a member of the Catholic Daughters Court Number 555 in Caledonia, Minn. Rita was a life member of the VFW Auxiliary Kenneth Casey Post 5603 in New Albin, and served as it's president. Rita was proud to be a Star Tupperware dealer and the longtime friendships she made with Tupperware. She was active in her New Albin community.

She is survived by her husband, Karl J. Krzebietke of New Albin; two daughters, Josephine Bernier of Denver, CO, and Otillia (Donald) Rutherford of Buda, TX; one son, William (Denise) Bernier of Eau Claire, WI; four grandchildren, Claire Greenwald, Prestyn and Isaac Bernier and Elizabeth Rutherford; one sister-in-law, Mary L. Bennett of Waseca, MN; and two brothers-in-law, John Vach of La Crosse and Paul (Erna) Krzebietke of Caledonia, MN. She is further survived by numerous nieces and nephews and other family members.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, William on April 14, 1983; one son, John on May 12, 1993; her parents; one sister, Mary Vach; and one brother, John Zlabek.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, New Albin. The Rev. Daniel Knipper will officiate; with burial at 4 p.m. to be held in Calvary Cemetery, Prairie du Chien. Friends and family may call from 4 to 8 p.m. at the New Albin Community Center, New Albin, with a Catholic Daughters Rosary to be recited at 7:30 p.m. and a wake prayer service to be held at 8 p.m. Friends and family may also call from noon until departing for Mass Saturday at the New Albin Community Center.

Blaschke Funeral Homes of La Crosse is assisting the family with arrangements.
