Richard "Dick" Kubitz, age 66, of New Albin, Iowa, died Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2000, at Franciscan Skemp Healthcare Center in La Crosse, Wis. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, at St. Joseph's Church in New Albin, with Fr. Daniel Knipper officiating. Interment in St. Joseph's Cemetery, New Albin. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20, at the New Albin Community Center, with a scripture service at 7:30 p.m.

Dick was born on Nov. 10, 1933, to parents Otto and Alice (Hayes) Kubitz in Jefferson Township, Houston County, Minn. He was raised on the farm and continued to farm the home place his entire life. He married Teresa Mitchell on Oct. 28, 1954, at St. Joseph's Church in New Albin. He was drafted into the Army in 1954, and was discharged in 1956.

He is survived by his wife, Teresa; three sons, Leon "Mike" Kubitz and wife, Lisa; Lawrence "Joe" Kubitz and wife, Sandra; Lyndon Kubitz and fiancee, Wendy Hrushka, all of New Albin; three daughters, Debbie Valley of Lansing; Terrie (Randy) Roth of Manitowoc, Wis.; and Dawn (Mark) Tewes of Eitzen, Minn.; 14 grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Lou Meyer of West Union, Iowa; and Dorothy Ann (Tom) Weiand of Calmar, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one granddaughter, and one brother.

Thornburg-Hanson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
