James Francis Farley, 63, of New Albin died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 1998 at his home.

Services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 21 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Lansing, with Fr. Hank Charipar officiating, Burial was in Gethsemane Cemetery. Burke-Thornburg Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He was born Jan. 23, 1935, in rural Harpers Ferry to Chester and Anna (Kernan) Farley and attended school in the Harpers Ferry area.

March 19, 1956, James and Ruth Roney were married at Wexford Immaculate Conception Church. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, then returned to the area and began farming and doing construction work. He was a member of Local 49 Operating Engineers.

James is survived by his wife; his mother, and six children and their spouses, Kathleen "Kate" and Steve Troendle of Lansing; Paul and Donna Farley and Dennis and Denise Farley, all of Decorah; Kevin and Nora Farley of Clermont; Colleen and Randy Martie of Postville; and Marleen and Dan Hayek of Fort Atkinson.

Other survivors include 21 grandchildren; three sisters, Janet Farley of Cedar Rapids; Jean and husband Elmer Yeoman of Lansing; and Judy and husband George Stahl of Iowa City; and two brothers and their wives, Jerry and Beverly Farley of Santa Maria, CA; and Donald and Barb Farley of DeWitt.

His father preceded him in death.

Casket bearers were Christopher, Eric and Matthew Troendle, Steven Dahl Jr., Jason, Joel, Jeremy and David Farley.

Honorary bearers were Daryl Farley, Shane Dahl, Robert Roney, Paul Breeser, Fred Wiemerslage, Cory Martie, Phillip Hayek and Gene Kennrick.
