Michael "Mickey" James Aschom, 71, peacefully entered into his heavenly home January 22, 2015 at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Rushford, Minnesota. Services were held Saturday, January 24 at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Rushford,Minnesota with Pastor Roger Michaelson officiating. Interment will be at Gethsemane Cemetery in Lansing, Iowa.

Michael was born October 19, 1943 to Norbert and Catherine (Hawkins) Aschom in LaCrosse, Wisconsin, one of eight children. He attended Immaculate Conception School in Lansing, Iowa. Mickey met the love of his life in LaCrosse, Wisconsin and on October 17, 1992 he made Marion Puetz his wife. The couple moved to Rushford, Minnesota in 2001.

In his younger days, Mickey was a proud member of the Lansing Volunteer Fire Department, serving faithfully for many years. He also played baseball with the Lansing Mudcats. Baseball was a
favorite love and hobby for Mickey and he used to have quite an impressive card collection. He was a big fan of the Yankees, particularly Mickey Mantle. He became a big Twins fan after moving to Minnesota. He also loved the Vikings and it took a brave soul to cheer for the Packers in his presence.

Mickey loved to play games with friends and family. He especially enjoyed playing bingo, dice, cards, The Price is Right, Skipbo with Judy M. and the fifteen-cent game, which was a highlight of his annual birthday/anniversary celebration. Music and singing were a big part of Mickey's life and he had a long-standing reputation as being quite the singer. He was often told that he born a striking resemblance to Elvis Presley, one of his favorites. His favorite song was "God Bless America" because he had a great love of God and country. Mickey was very patriotic and he had a deep appreciation for the men and women who served his beloved country. He also had a deep love and appreciation for all of his nurses.

Mickey is survived by his wife of 23 years, Marion Aschom; his brother Norb (Nancy) Aschom of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin; his sister-in-law Barb Aschom of Brookfield, Wisconsin; his sisters, Kathy Christopherson of LaCrosse, Wisconsin, Susan (Roger) Ekern of Rushford, Minnesota, and Julie (Greg) Buel of Punta Gorda, Florida. Mickey was also a proud and loving uncle to 51 nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Norbert and Catherine Aschom and his three brothers, John, Clark, and most recently, Richard.
