DIED. of heart disease, after a long and severe illness, at his residence at Lycurgus, this county, on Friday, Nov. 13th, Charles Nees, aged 74 years, 11 months and 21 days.

Deceased was born on Nov. 22, 1816, at Candern, Baden, Germany; came to America in 1852 landing in New Orleans, and sojourning between there and St. Louis until 1855, when he came to Dubuque, where he engaged in business.

He was married to Wilhelmina Stiefbold in 1861, and remained at Dubuque until 1864, when he came to Center township, this county, and engaged in farming.

In 1870 he removed to his late residence at Lycurgus, where he was engaged in business and held the office of postmaster for the last fifteen years.

He leaves a wife and six children to mourn his loss. The funeral took place from the family residence at 2 p.m. Sunday, the remains being laid to rest in the Englehorn cemetery near by.

Deceased was well and most favorably known by nearly everyone who had occasion to travel the main road from Lansing to Waukon. His house was always a comfortable home for the traveler, and few, indeed, there are who have not partaken of his hospitality. He was scrupulously honest in all dealings with his fellow men, and has gone to that reward which only the just can hope to merit.

Miss Emily Ness, called home by the death of her father, returns soon to her studies at Cedar Falls.
