Waukon, Ia., Jan. 30 - Word was received here Thursday by Mrs. Fred Beeman that her brother, Captain Milton Reed had died that day of pneumonia at a San Francisco hospital.

Captain Reed was about 60 years of age and was born in Waukon where he resided for some years. The greater part of his life had been spent in the navy, rising gradually until he attained the rank of captain. He visited every foreign country and for a number of years had been stationed at San Francisco.

Besides Mrs. Beeman he leaves another sister, Miss Althea Reed of Ft. Wayne, Ind.

Waukon, Ia., Feb 1 - Captain Milton E. Reed, now a retired captain of the navy, who died in San Francisco last Wednesday, will be buried Wednesday at Arlington National cemetery in Washington, D.C., according to word received here by his sister, Mrs. Fred L. Beeman. His other sister, Miss M. Altha Reed of Fort Wayne, Ind., will attend the funeral.

Captain Reed was the son of Major and Mrs. D.W. Reed, early residents of Waukon, the former serving as postmaster and county recorder for some years. He was born 62 years ago. After completing his education here he attended the Naval academy at Annapolis and from the time he entered the navy he rose rapidly until he attained the rank of captain.

During the Spanish American war he was in command of a ship and at one time was chief aide to the admiral of the Pacific fleet. During these years he visited every foreign country in the world.

Since Captain Reed's retirement from the navy he had been actively engaged as an engineer in the construction of a lorogeb ridge, crossing San Francisco bay to Oakland, Cal. San Francisco had been the home of Captain Reed and wife for several years.
