Beautiful Young Girl Called
Stella Brannan died at Mercy Hospital, Dubuque, Feb. 27th, after an illness of short duration. She was taken sick with appendicitis at her home and was hurried to the hospital, accompanied by Father Nolan and Miss Latimer, but peritonitis had set in and all that medical aid could do was of no avail. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Brannan were sent for and after receiving the last Sacraments she passed peacefully away surrounded by the Sisters, her parents and pastor, Rev. M.E. Nolan.
Stella was born in Taylor township May 19, 1909, and spent her girlhood days there, until a year ago when the family moved to Harpers Ferry. She was a kind and loving girl, a joy to her parents and a friend to everyone who knew her.
She was laid to rest in St. Joseph's cemetery after Requiem Mass at St. Annn's, Harpers Ferry, Friday, Feb. 29th. Her pall bearers were, Frank Heim, Michael Saddler, Joseph Garin, Leonard Melaven, Harold Mooney and Clem Melaven.
Besides her parents she leaves two younger sisters and a brother to mourn her untimely taking off. The community deeply sympathizes with the Brannan family in their great loss.
Those from a distance attending the Brannan funeral last Friday were: Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Brannan, Mr. and Mrs. John Kaveny, of Waukon; Mr. and Mrs. Urban Healy, Mrs. John Guider, W.F. Ryan, Mrs. James Mooney, of Lansing; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Healy of Dubuque.
