Frank N. May, Former County Resident, Dies

Frank N. May, of 1912 D St., Vancouver, Wash., died at the Memorial hospital in Vancouver, Wash., on Sunday, May 22, at 11:30 a.m. having suffered a stroke ten days previous at his home.

Frank May was born Dec. 16, 1868 in French Creek, Allamakee county. His parents were Frank and Helen May. When only three years old, he lost his father and little sister, Minnie, 9 months old, both passing away only three months apart.

When he was nine years old his mother was married to William Bulman, of English Bench, and it was then he went to English Bench where he grew to manhood. He attended the English Bench school and later Breckenridge College at Decorah.

After finishing college he went to Lansing, where he clerked for two years in Pape's clothing store. Later, he returned to the farm and upon the death of his step-father, he assisted his mother on the farm for six years.

In order that his two sisters, Flossie and Nora Bulman might have a better opportunity for an education, the family moved to Decorah, where Frank went into real estate and implement business.

Sept. 12, 1905, he married Miss Grace Christopher, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Christopher. The Reverends Dr. Green and Pastor Hunt of the Methodist church at Decorah officiated.

Two children, Homer and Anna, were born to them. In 1910 the family went to Scranton, N.D., where he owned and operated a store and was president of the Scranton bank.

The family moved to Los Angeles, Calif., in 1944 where they lived for two years before they moved to Vancouver, Wash., where they have made their home.

He was baptized at the Mt. Hope Presbyterian Church and served as superintendent and active member there for a number of years. After moving to Decorah he took an active part in the Methodist church and since the family have affiliated and been members of the Methodist church.

He is survived by his wife, Grace; son, Homer of Eugene, Oregon; his daughter, Anna (Mrs. E.A. Bell) of Vancouver, Wash.; two granddaughters, Sally and Carol May, and one grandson, Robbie Ashley; one sister, Nora (Mrs. Arnold Dullum) of Starbuck, Minn., besides many cousins. His parents and sisters, Hattie and Flossie, preceded him in death.

He was a member of the Methodist church, the Masonic fraternity, Elks and Woodman lodges.

The funeral took place Tuesday at 2 o'clock at the Hamilton funeral home, with Rev. B.G. Brown, Methodist pastor, officiating. Interment in Park Hill Cemetery, at Vancouver.

Mr. and Mrs. May would have observed their golden wedding this September and his brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Dullum planned to attend.
