Postville, Ia. - Funeral services for John M. Thoma, 73, druggist in Postville for more than 50 years and for several years manager of the state liquor store here, were held Tuesday at the Schutte Funeral Home. The Rev. Frederick R. Ludwig, pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, officiated. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.
Mr. Thoma's entire lifetime, with the exception of one year spent in Mechanicsville, was spent here. He was a member of the school board for more than 20 years and was president of the board several times.
He was born in Grand Meadow Township [Clayton county], Feb. 2, 1871, son of John and Dorothea Thoma. He was married to Miss Estella Harrington, Grand Meadow Township, on March 30, 1892. They observed their golden wedding anniversary in 1942.
Surviving are his wife; four daughters, Mrs. Charles Mayer, Minneapolis, Minn.; Mrs. Lloyd Palmer, Mrs. John O. Casten, and Mrs. Donald Folsom, all of Postville; one sister, Mrs. Anna Thoma, Postville; one brother, Fred J. Thoma, Postville, and several grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
