A brief announcement was made in this paper last week of the passing of Edward Angell, whose death took place at the Lutheran hospital, La Crosse, Jan. 16, 1944, at 7:40 p.m. following a lingering illness.
Deceased was born April 2, 1863, in Lansing, Iowa a son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Angell. He grew and spent his boyhood days in Lansing. he was twice married. On Nov. 28, 1888, he married Margaret Joseph, who passed away Feb. 19, 1901. On June 1, 1909 he married Lottie Oliver, who passed away Oct. 19, 1910. One son, Arnott, of La Crosse of the first marriage survives him, and a son, Oliver, of De Soto, Wis., of the second marriage; also two sisters, Mrs. Ruth Tufts of New Albin and Mrs. Martha Kloak of De Soto; five brothers, Frank, St. Charles, Ill., George, New Albin, Ernest, Parkside, Sask., Canada, Curtis of Lake City, Minn., and Ben, Tampa, Florida; three granddaughters and one grandson the latter serving in the U.S. Army in Australia.
The occupation of deceased varied. He followed the river for 20 years, was engineer in the mines at Vulcan, Mich. he made his home here with his sister, Mrs. Tufts, until six years ago when he went to La Crosse and made his home with his son, Arnott.
Mr. Angell was known familiarly here as "Ed" and his kindness of character made him liked by all. Of children was he especially fond and ever ready to greet them with a cheery word or do them a favor. To grown-ups also was he always willing and ready to lend the helping hand of charity and consolation to those needy or bereaved.
Funeral services were held last Tuesday morning at the M.E. Church in De Soto, Wis., with the Rev. M. Vanderbeck, pastor, officiating. Interment was made in the cemetery at Retreat, Wis.
Relatives who attended the funeral were Mrs. Ruth Tufts, George Angell, New Albin; Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Angell and daughter Mrs. Carlton Keyath, Lake City, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Angell, Prairie du Chien, Wis.; W.E. Dyer and family, Ferryville; and Mrs. Martha Kloak, De Soto.
